Our current Short Run Shirting Collection features four styles crafted from Thomas Mason fabric. The Purple and Blue Carter Check, The Navy and Blue Thompson Tattersall and The Red and Blue Thompson Tattersall are all Italian woven 2-fold cotton poplins from Thomas Mason - the perfect year-round cloth made from long staple yarn that responds well to vibrant color dyes. The Blue Starks Twill is a vibrant blue tattersall on an incredibly soft cotton twill from Thomas Mason.
Thomas Mason first opened its doors in 1796 in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. Sir Thomas Mason was a leading entrepreneur in the English textile industry, founding one of the first cotton fabric factories for shirts in Leeds, England. The fabrics were first used by tailors located in London’s West End for the aristocracy and wealthy upper class before expanding throughout the British Empire and eventually to the rest of the world.
Thomas Mason saw much success during the Victorian Era, but focus took a turn at the start of the First World War. Contributing to the war cause, Thomas Mason experimented with new fabrics and treatments to create waterproof and fire resistant cotton.
During the 20s and 30s, Savile Row and Jermyn Street resumed position as the international epicenter of quality menswear. It was in 1936 that Thomas Mason became the exclusive supplier for Turnbull and Asser, the shirtmaker of English Royalty. Acquired by Albini in the early 90s, Thomas Mason continues to bring incomparable quality fabric inspired by historic English roots and traditional aesthetic. Today, Thomas Mason fabrics are woven in Italian mills.
Having been in existence for more than 200 years, Thomas Mason fabric is a key ingredient in the quality of Ledbury shirts.
